I work with clients aged 13-40+ in individual therapy. I am currently working online with hybrid in person availability in Bengaluru and occasional, quarterly visits to Gurgaon.
As your counsellor I hope to support you to live in a way you find meaningful, while experiencing and effectively coping with the range of emotions life has to offer. Here are some philosophies, theories and tools that inform my work:
Humanistic Approach
You are ultimately the expert on yourself. By providing a space free of easy assumptions and judgments, I hope that we can help you realize your full potential and bring your actual and ideal versions of yourself closer together. Our work and goals together will be mutually decided, and will not consist of me simply giving advice. I will also aim to be my authentic self to help encourage you in the same.
Cognitive Behaviour Theory & Mindfulness
CBT interventions can help us with emotional regulation by challenging cognitive distortions that all of us tend to use. Learning these techniques gives you a structured way to work through emotional concerns and help us understand where our reactions, behaviours and thoughts may arise from. Behavioural activation helps us move towards behaviours that will give us more positive experiences.
Mindfulness and grounding aids in recognizing and validating our emotional and sensorial experiences, providing more positive everyday experiences and helping us inculcate kindness and patience towards ourselves.
Social Justice Lens
My approach acknowledges and advocates to address systemic issues and inequities and their effect on the individual. In line with this, I strive to be queer affirmative and reflect and challenge my own conditioning around societal norms.
Relational work, Psychodynamic Principles & Attachment Theory
Working relationally means we gain insight, grow and learn from the therapeutic relationship we form.
Curiosity and self reflection can provide insight into how our past relationships and early experiences shape and colour our current experiences. We may bring forward emotions that you have not considered previously and bear witness to your lived experiences together.
Eventually we hope to help you make more conscious choices. Further, we hope to encourage opportunities for new, healing attachment experiences.
Trauma Informed Care
I recognize the widespread pervasiveness of adverse experiences in people and their often unrecognized impact on emotions, bodies, and behaviour. We may also use some somatic exercises to help you regulate yourself through your body.
